Travelling with bicycles

As a general rule, users are entitled to take their bicycle on board the train. On trains where a reservation is required, it is also possible to make a reservation for the carriage of a bicycle. If specific places for bicycles are available on board the train, passengers may store their bicycles there. Where such places are not available, passengers shall keep an eye on their bicycles and make all reasonable efforts to ensure that they do not damage or harm other passengers, mobility equipment, luggage or train operations.

When a passenger has made a reservation for a bicycle and is refused transport without good reason, the passenger has the right to alternative transport or to a refund of the ticket, compensation and assistance.

Railway companies may have restrictions for operational or safety reasons. These restrictions may apply to some trains during peak travel times due to limited space available for bicycles or if the company's trains or carriages do not allow the carriage of bicycles. Restrictions may also apply depending on the weight and size of the bicycle. Therefore, you should always consult the official website of the railway company you are travelling with for information on any fees or restrictions that may apply.

Tips

If you are travelling by bicycle, check with each railway company:

  • Conditions of carriage.
  • Price.
  • Whether a reservation is necessary.
