Loss or damage to baggage

Right to compensation

Hand luggage

The carrier shall be liable for loss of or damage to items carried by the passenger, e.g. hand luggage. The passenger is entitled to compensation up to a limit of approximately €1,500 per passenger.

Checked baggage

In case of total or partial loss of checked luggage, the carrier must pay:

  • If the amount of the loss or damage has been proved, compensation equal to such proved amount, not exceeding 80 units of account per kilogramme of gross weight missing or 1,200 units of account per package.
  • If the amount of the loss or damage has not been proved, compensation calculated at a flat rate of 20 units of account per kilogram of the missing gross weight or 300 units of account per package.

The passenger is not entitled to this compensation when the damage or delay of the baggage is attributable to the passenger or to any of the following circumstances:

  • Lack or defect of packing.
  • Special nature of the luggage.
  • Baggage with objects excluded from carriage.

It is important to carry your luggage correctly identified, with your name, surname and address. This way, in case of loss, it will be easier to identify it.

A package may be considered lost if it has not been delivered or made available to the owner within 14 days of the request for delivery.
